Accountability is Key

Accountability is crucial because it takes consistency to achieve any goals and that includes health and fitness. Being held responsible for your training, nutrition and lifestyle choices enables you to stay the course long enough to get your desired results.

This is true whether their goal is to lose weight, increase muscle mass or improve overall health, Realistic goals involve working toward each slowly. They require taking small actions consistently over time. Research reveals that the more you are held accountable for taking necessary actions, the higher your success rate.

It also helps to know that you have someone giving you support and who wants to see you achieve your goal. Not everyone gets that support at home so it’s crucial you have someone or people around you who want to see you ‘win’.

It is key to your success that whatever the goals you set, they must be realistic and they must have clearly defined timelines. Even if they are broken down into smaller steps along the way, in order to be held fully accountable we need to know the timeframe you are working to. This also shows a good amount of commitment, because without a timeframe even with the best will in the world….things get pushed back!

This is where the value of a coach comes into play, not only do they work with you to form realistic goals but they are there to hold your hand and hold you accountable to whatever has been agreed that you’ll do in order to reach your goal.

This can include;

  • Check your food diary / Food tracker on a regular basis to ensure you are making the right decisions and staying consistent.

  • Educate you so you know the right choices to make.

  • Ask questions around lifestyle such as your sleeping habits, stress levels, time management that could need tweaking to optimise.

  • Ensuring you are sticking to your training programme and doing the correct amount of sessions per week. Also that you are training at the correct level of intensity relative to your goal.

  • Take regular ‘stats’ to keep track of your progress and make sure you are moving in the right direction. Also to show the correlation between sticking to the plan and the positive impact it has on your results.

  • Provide support when you may have a wobble and want to give up.

  • Celebrate your success with you.
